It was recently announced that Tootsie Roll Industries Inc., makers of Tootsie Rolls and Tootsie Pops, will be shipping their products from a new site in Hazleton , Pennsylvania beginning in late March.
Founded in 1896 by Leo Hirshfield their main headquarters remain in Chicago , Illinois .
Hirshfield started the company in a small shop located in New York City His goal was to develop a chocolate-tasting candy that would not melt in the heat. That became the Tootsie Roll, and he named the candy after his daughter’s nickname, Tootsie.
In 1931 Hirshfield invented the Tootsie Pop, which is a hard candy lollipop with a Tootsie Roll center. It immediately became popular with the Dust Bowl refugees during the Great Depression because of its low price. Throughout the years the company has acquired several other companies, and today Tootsie Roll Industries supplies candy to over 75 countries.
Candymachines.com offers Tootsie Rolls in bulk for vending in crane machines and in Tubs for personal home or office use.
